The Bands !
Well this is one of the reasons you came here ! Donovan's Reef showcases many established and upcoming bands on their infamous Sunday afternoons, as well as the all day beach concerts on Saturdays ! Bands appear nightly every day, with two bands each on the weekends, both day and night during the summer months and Friday through Sunday in the winter! Check our current calendar for details.
Brian Kirk and the Jirks (Every other Sunday night in the summer, Every Sunday in the winter)- Features covers of today's danceable alternative music, as well as two CD's worth of original music, including the "theme" song for the Web site - Donovan's Girl ! Watch this band perform Sunday afternoons and see Brian dance about Donovan's roof on his more energetic performances !
The Zone (Alternate Sundays in the summer)- Watch this latest alternative cover group from the Philadelphia area, with a slightly harder sound than Brian Kirk ! During the summer of 1999, they will be performing outside (weather permitting) on alternating Sundays with Brian Kirk and the Jirks. Either way, you get a great show at Donovan's Reef !
Mac and Jamie (Thursday and Friday Happy Hours, Most Saturday Nights)- A unique beach sound...even though they're from Killington Vt. They definitely liven up the Tiki Bar and some like these guys as their new favorite. Check them out every weekend.
Alphonse (Monday and Tuesday Happy Hours) - Appearing every Monday and Tuesday with a solo guitar sound that goes well with the laid back atmosphere of Donovan's. Alphonse has played regularly with the infamous Party Dolls!
PHATMAN (Friday nights)- The Friday night band at Donovan's for most Fridays. PHATMAN is a band that blends a healthy dose of blue-eyed soul with funk-styled rock & roll. The band includes JEFFERSON STARSHIP guitarist Slick Aguilar, ACME BOOGIE COMPANY founder Sam Cooper on bass guitar, and original ASBURY JUKE sax player John "Cos" Consoli. Also featured are vocalists Lew Longo & Pam McCoy, former MUSHROOM drummer Joe Bop, guitarist Ray Johnson, and harmonica player Dave "The Professor" McCurry. They get the place going for the weekend !
Indian Summer (Thursday nights and late Sunday nights)- A local duo that plays keyboards and drums. They are the nightly band on Thursdays and the late night band on Sundays to keep the place jumping.
Linda Chaney (Sunday afternoons)- A very talented local solo artist with a recent CD that warms the place up on Sundays starting at 2 P. M. and occasionally sings with the headlining band that day after 5 !
Bonnie Boland (Wednesday Happy Hour) - Solo artist who is the Wednesday regular for Happy Hour.
Melissa Chill and Scott Hathaway (Wednesday Nights) - Melissa's talented voice is heard on Wednesday nights at Donovans with Scott Hathaway
The Surge - This band performs frequently on Fridays at Donovan's Reef. Another great alternative cover band that will have you up and dancing.
Follow That Car - This band performs occasionally on Saturdays at Donovan's Reef. Great music, both alternative and earlier dance tunes !
Hoi Poloi - A great band from Hoboken that performs a wide range of alternative and classics in their PAJAMAS. THAT'S RIGHT - PAJAMA ROCK ! See these guys with their great sense of humor and stage presence!
